What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Treatment Plant I position at City of Dover?
There’s never been a better time to explore a future with the City of Dover. We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Water Treatment Division as a Water Treatment Plant Operator I. The essential function of the Water Treatment Plant Operator I position is to operate and maintain water treatment equipment.
Job Responsibilities
· Monitoring water treatment processes, adjusting chemical and physical processes, and maintaining logs and records.
· Maintaining water treatment or general plant equipment and systems; general clean-up of plant.
· Performing work at various water treatment facilities located throughout the City’s water system.
· Plumbing and minor electrical repairs in addition to equipment repair and installation as required.
· Measuring of chemicals, introduction of chemicals to the public water supply, understanding of instrumentation and working in an environment subject to rapid change.
· Problem-solving ability including ability to perform in demanding, high-stress, emergency situations that require quick decision making skills.
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED.
· Valid Delaware Driver’s License.
· Ability to obtain Approved Sampler/Tester certification through the State of Delaware licensing system within six (6) months of employment.
· Ability to obtain a license as a Water Treatment Plant Operator through the State of Delaware licensing system within one (1) year of employment.
· Working on a 24-7 rotating schedule, as well as working on federal holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
· Equivalent of one (1) year of college or vocational school education in chemistry, water treatment, or a closely related field.
· Experience in both mechanical maintenance and in the operation of water treatment facilities.
