Class Concept

Adaptive Recreation Instructors plan, organize and lead inclusive and specialized programs for Dublin community members with disabilities. We are looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to help us facilitate a safe, fun and inclusive environment for adaptive recreation participants to create memories to last a lifetime. Recreation Services offers social, cooking / life skill, fitness and aquatic programming designed for individuals with disabilities.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the full-time Adaptive Recreation Coordinator to organize, plan and implement programs and events for Dublin community members of all ages with disabilities. Instructors typically lead their programs with the support of one or more program assistants, depending on the program size and need. In addition, Instructors may collaborate with full-time Recreation Services staff in determining appropriate accommodations needed for individuals with disabilities to participate in other recreation programs.

Availability / Scheduling

  • Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities at this time)
  • Community Recreation Instructors (Adaptive) typically work 2-5 hours per week, depending on program needs
  • Program hours typically include evenings with occasional weekends, day time hours are rare
  • Scheduling is flexible based on instructor availability, and scheduling is usually completed 3 months in advance

  • Examples of Duties

    Examples of duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Plan developmentally appropriate activities for adaptive recreation program offerings
  • Organize necessary supplies, materials, and equipment for programs and events
  • Lead, instruct, demonstrate, and supervise program activities and staff as assigned
  • Adapt recreational activities to meet participant needs
  • Ensure participant safety by enforcing safety policies and procedures and maintaining clean and safe activity areas throughout all program durations
  • Collaborate with Adaptive Recreation Coordinator to determine accommodations needed for participation in recreation programs and to help resolve issues with participants prior to, during, and at the conclusion of seasonal programs
  • Communicate effectively with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator, program participants, and participant guardians prior to, during, and at the conclusion of each program
  • Typical Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of current American Red Cross CPR / AED / First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with individuals with a wide range of disabilities
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain active and on your feet for length of program time
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • College or university degree or work experience in Education, Special Education, Adaptive Recreation, or related field
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience
