What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Intern position at City of Dubuque?
Administrative route: This type of intern opportunity will provide the student with a chance to work with administrative staff in the City of Dubuque Fire Department. The intern will work under the direction of senior staff officers on specific project assignments. The work can vary but will include a specific project or assignment, typically in the Fire Marshals Office, the Training Division, the Emergency Medical Services Division, or with the Operations Division.
Operational route: This type of intern opportunity will provide the student with a chance to work with operational staff in the City of Dubuque Fire Department. The intern would work under the direction of the Training Division while learning about a professional career as a firefighter paramedic. The intern will gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of fire and EMS response including special response, training requirements, station duties, vehicle maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Must be 18 years of age at time of selection.
College interns are required to attend college with a scope of curriculum related to fire/EMS service or a field which supports fire and EMS service, local government, social services, technology, communications, education, or ability to bring a diverse perspective to the fire service profession.
College interns who desire to fulfil an elective by assisting the Dubuque Fire Department with outreach and education targeted towards diverse populations and/or areas of the Dubuque Community will also be considered.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:This is a limited term position which will align with the program requirements of the college. The position will have oversight by the college success coordinator, college program director, or other college representative. The position will not work more than approximately 16 hours in one week unless pre-approved by the college and city Human Resources department. There will be no overnight “shift work” during the internship opportunity.
