About this Position:

This part-time Custodial Laborer position is scheduled for three days a week from 4:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. It requires a vehicle to transport to multiple locations.

SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Perform a variety of routine cleaning and custodial maintenance duties in and around City facilities to provide a safe, attractive, clean, functional, and pleasant environment for workers and visitors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Provide comprehensive cleaning services for City facilities.
  • Clean, dust, sanitize, and in other manners maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment in and around City facilities assigned.
  • Maintain spaces and equipment in City facilities assigned in a safe, efficient, and attractive and welcome manner by performing simple custodial maintenance.
  • Remove snow, ice, and other impediments and hazards to safe access to the City facilities assigned.
  • Collect and recycle or dispose of unwanted materials.
  • Move, transport, and arrange tables, chairs, office furniture, and other items to provide the required resources at the proper place and time.
  • Ensure security and reduce environmental demands by locking and unlocking doors, turning off lights, closing windows, and similar.
  • Perform maintenance painting and minor repair work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Age Requirement
A. Must be age 18 or older.

Experience Requirement
A. Experience performing general cleaning and custodial maintenance.

License Requirement
A. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver's license or equivalent.

Knowledge Requirements
A. Knowledge of general safety practices and procedures.
B. Knowledge of basic arithmetic necessary to calculate portions of cleaning materials.
C. Knowledge of the methods and materials used in the cleaning and maintenance of facilities.

Skill Requirements
A. Skill in providing good customer service for people working in or visiting City facilities.
B. Skill in cleaning and maintaining various surfaces using a variety of methods.
C. Skill in making minor repairs to equipment used in custodial and maintenance work.
D. Skill in the operation of power floor maintenance equipment.

Ability Requirements
A. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and others.
B. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
C. Ability to read and understand custodial and maintenance equipment manuals.
D. Ability to climb ladders.
E. Ability to work in dusty, dirty, wet, and cold conditions.
F. Ability to walk, kneel, climb, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, and do related physical activities.
G. Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies such as boxes of paper, mop buckets, and furniture weighing up to 55 pounds.
H. Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in all kinds of weather.
I. Ability to attend work as scheduled.

Selection Process Information

Application Period: We will accept applications on a rolling basis until a final candidate has been selected.
Application Review/Interviews: Applications will be reviewed as they are received. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to arrange an interview.
Pre-Employment Process: After a conditional offer letter has been sent to the selected candidate, the pre-employment process will commence. All pre-employment requirements must been successfully completed before the first day of work.
Anticipated Hire Date: ASAP

Any applicant who has been found qualified to participate in a selection process for a position in the classified service who has reason to contest the validity or fairness of any step in the selection process may appeal to the Civil Service Board within 10 calendar days of the examination. (If the examination is an Education/Experience Review, the applicant must appeal within 10 calendar days of the closing date for accepting applications.) The notice of appeal shall be in writing, shall contain a complete statement of the matter in controversy and the relief requested, and shall be signed and dated by the appellant. The notice shall be addressed to the Civil Service Board and be delivered to the Human Resources Office. If an applicant wishes to file an appeal electronically, the notice should be sent by email to hrinformation@duluthmn.gov.
