Working under the guidance of the Airport Utilities and Environmental Manager, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the safety and functionality of our airside grounds and utility systems. This position involves operating light to heavy equipment for runway safety area maintenance, implementing wildlife management plans, maintaining airport grounds, and conducting environmental sampling. Ideal candidates enjoy working outdoors and have experience in grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental regulations.
This is a six-month seasonal role, with a consistent schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.What You’ll Do in This Role:
- Operate various equipment, including tractors, skid steers, pickup trucks, and ATVs, to maintain runway safety areas through tasks such as mowing, weed control, grading, and dragging.
- Assist with management of wildlife populations by performing daily field inspections, addressing problem species with lethal control, hazing wildlife away from the airfield, treating the airfield with chemical and mechanical control measures, and adhering to the Airport’s Wildlife Management Plan.
- Inspect and assist with maintaining the airport’s perimeter fence to prevent wildlife and unauthorized access.
- Perform general outdoor labor in various weather conditions to support wildlife management and utility system maintenance, including filling animal burrows, repairing fences, and assisting with water/sewer line repairs.
- Tracks and documents animals taken under federal and Colorado state permits, ensuring accurate reporting for annual permit renewals.
- Collect water, wastewater, soil, and sediment samples in the field according to approved standards, and conduct on-site testing for parameters like pH, conductivity, chlorine, and dissolved oxygen.
- Document all field work in detailed logs and data sheets for the airport’s Environmental Manager.
- Assist in the response to and cleanup of hazardous material spills.
- Help maintain inventory records for fuel, water/wastewater treatment chemicals, tools, and replacement parts.
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check to work in a TSA-secured area.
- Prior experience with mowing, grounds maintenance, wildlife management, and/or light to medium equipment operation preferred.
- Skill in operating tools and equipment to mitigate wildlife issues, including lethal and non-lethal practices
- Skill in operating light to heavy equipment and vehicles, including pickup tracks, skid steers, ATVs, and tractors.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents, such as regulations, maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
