Works primarily in a typical library setting: requires walking, standing, reaching, bending, moving book bins that can weigh between 30-40 pounds, and pushing carts of books that can weigh up to 125 pounds.

- Provide friendly, proactive, and knowledgeable assistance to Library patrons.
- Sort and shelve Library materials.
- Ensure that materials are shelved in their proper order.
- Answer basic directional questions from the public, and otherwise referring patrons to the appropriate service desk for further assistance.
- Adhere to Library policies and procedures.
- Assist in providing a secure environment for patrons, staff, and library materials.
- May answer the Library telephone and direct calls.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge and Application of:
- Principles of positive, friendly customer service;
- A basic understanding of the Dewey Decimal System and the alphabet;
- Ability to receive and follow oral and written instructions;
- Reading, alphabetization, and basic math including decimals;
- An awareness of the purposes and functions of the public library and the ability to learn routine library procedures.

- Ability to effectively interact with other individuals, (co-workers, public, children, etc.);
- Use and normal maintenance of office machines, (copier, computer, printer, etc.);
- Handling of files including floor to waist and overhead lifting;
- Ability to lift, push and move office supplies weighing up to 50 pounds;
- Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects ;
- Ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time;
- Frequent use of phone handset and repetitive use of hand & fingers to operate office equipment, use computer keyboard & computer mouse, and to perform other office tasks;
- Acceptable eyesight to read printed material and a computer monitor, and to operate office equipment;
- Acceptable hearing to communicate with others in person or on the telephone;
- Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others in person, on the telephone, and at meetings.
Education or Formal Training and Licenses: To be considered for this position an applicant must have completed a minimum of two years of high school. |
Experience: Previous library experience desired but not required. |
