What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trash & Recycling Driver II position at City of Durango?
In this role, you’ll expertly operate recycling and trash equipment, including front and side-load collection vehicles, balers, and material conveyors. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and your keen eye will be vital in equipment inspections, minor maintenance, and adhering to the best safety practices. Under the general guidance of the Solid Waste Supervisor, you’ll be a prominent representative of the department, showcasing your exceptional public contact and customer service skills.
**We will facilitate training to help you obtain your Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
What You’ll Do in This Role:
Operate a variety of recycle and trash equipment, including front and side-load collection trucks, skip loaders, front-end loaders, bobcat attachments, forklifts, fork trucks, balers and material conveyors
Perform preventative maintenance for both heavy and light equipment.
Maintain production logs, records, and identify customer equipment needs.
Handle, inspect, and sort incoming recyclable materials, and process payments.
Ensure safe equipment operations through pre- and post-trip inspections, minor maintenance, and cleanliness.
Clear ice and snow from roadways and alleys.
Adhere to safety practices and procedures during all work activities.
You Have:
Equivalent to completion of high school or GED
Two years of maintenance work experience involving the operation of moderate to light construction and/or trash collection equipment
Ability to maintain a valid, Class B CDL license during employment
Excellent customer service skills
Knowledge of the layout of City of Durango streets
Experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and janitorial tasks
