Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Make field inspections at various stages of construction to ensure compliance with applicable building codes; write inspection reports and communicate with contractors, subcontractors, and property owners regarding compliance with codes and corrections that must be made as the project progresses.
- Plan, direct, and exercise general supervision over the work of the permitting and inspection personnel.
- Make field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable city codes, including zoning regulations, sign regulations, and various environmental regulation; work with citizens, property owners and contractors as necessary; documents violations, and where warranted, issue citations.
- Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and city ordinances; make review comments, note needed corrections, check specific code references before issuing a permit.
- Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, and building owners during the plan approval process.
- Provide in-office assistance to the public regarding the process for obtaining building permits, contractor licensing or meeting state requirements for construction.
- Maintain inspection reports and work with the Permit Technician to verify that records are appropriately filed for each construction project.
- Occasionally supplement field inspection reports with photographs or video recordings where serious violations are founds or where there is a potential of claims or litigations.
- Responsible for the enforcement of TCEQ rules and the City Code of Ordinances for the protection of the public potable water distribution system from contamination or pollution due to the backflow of contaminants or pollutants through the water service connection.
- Attend staff, committee, and council meetings; participate as warranted.
- Serves as the staff liaison and subject matter expert to the Planning and Zoning Board.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
