DESCRIPTION
Operational requirements for the East Chicago Public Transit necessitate that the person perform the below
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Bus Operation: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Drives bus on designated routes,
(2) Picks up and drops off passengers at designated bus stops,
(3) Closely adheres to published time schedules,
(4) Complies with all traffic regulations,
(5) Report any mechanical problems with the bus while en route to a supervisor or main office.
2. Public Service: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Interacts with members of the public in a polite, courteous, considerate, and helpful manner.
(2) Provide answers to questions from the public or direct them to someone who can respond.
(3) Turns in articles left on the bus by passengers to the main office.
3. Bus Inspection: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Performs daily pre-trip / post-trip inspection of the bus,
(2) Report any damage or mechanical problems discovered to the supervisor.
4. Safety: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Performs all tasks in a safe manner,
(2) Monitors the environment on the bus and adjacent to the bus to ensure passenger safety,
(3) Identifies and corrects or reports safety hazards when they occur,
(4) Report accidents immediately to the supervisor,
(5) Complies with all department, city, and INDOT safety policies, rules, and regulations,
(6) Report any “off-duty” moving violations to the department immediately.
5. Record Keeping: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Completes required FTA paperwork,
(2) Completes required INDOT paperwork.
6. Teamwork: This dimension includes the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Works effectively with other members of the Transit Department to ensure efficient operations,
(2) Works effectively with personnel from other departments/divisions within city government.

6. Transit Department Policies, Rules, Regulations, Operations, and Processes.

1. Operation of Bus.

Required Licenses/Certifications
1. CDL with a Class A or B Certification, Passenger Endorsement, and No Restrictions.
2. Operate buses with air brakes.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of two (2) years of professional driving experience
2. Good driving record, no major accidents in the past three (3) years
3. Good knowledge of the geographical layout of the City of East Chicago
