POSITION SUMMARY
Under close supervision, perform entry-level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various departments throughout the City of East Chicago. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of procedures and standards at the Marina. May perform duties such as gathering and organizing data to provide information for Marina’s special projects, or reports; basic arithmetic computations, assist in all entry-level responsibilities such as filing, data entry, answering phones, contacting City departments or outside agencies by phone to request or give information and other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by the position for the Marina, Jeorse Beach, Splash Pad, and Special Events. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
- Answer telephone inquiries concerning routine department operations, procedures, and/or requirements. Route routine telephone calls and specific inquiries to the proper personnel.
- Manage and handle all inbound & and outbound customer service calls, and phone screening.
- Manage and handle all incoming and outgoing mail to the mail room or Post Office.
- Retrieve and scan mail for office distribution.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions productively and positively, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Performs assorted clerical work by filing and organizing records and performing receptionist tasks.
- Prepare, compile, and sort documents for data entry.
- Maintain office files in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Check source documents for accuracy, and verify data where necessary.
- Enter data from source documents into prescribed computer databases, files, and forms.
Must be familiar with and cross-trained on all Marina and Beach operations, including but not limited to the gas dock and splash pad.
- Check completed work for accuracy; obtain further information for incomplete documents.
- Attend to the public and deal with public relations problems tactfully and courteously.
- Assist in processing boater’s contracts and parking permits as well as scheduling boat launching and haul-outs each season.
- Assist in renting venue spaces.
- Assist with planning and processing entertainment, rental equipment, and supplies for Special Events.
- Perform other clerical and office duties as directed.
- Performs a range of general clerical accounting and bookkeeping support functions in an organization.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Marina Director/Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent; preferably some college
One (1) year of clerical and/or administrative support experience
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment - Work is performed in indoor, and outdoor environments; travel from site to site; incumbents may be exposed to noise, dust, and all inclement weather conditions. Alternate work schedules. The work environment is both formal and informal, team-oriented, having variable tasks, pace, and pressure.
Physical – Primary functions require sufficient ability and mobility to work in a fast-paced office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information; drive. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Vocal – Vocal communication is required for expressing, or exchanging ideas using spoken words and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Vision – See in normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in normal audio range with or without correction.
