What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Crossing Guard position at City Of East Grand Rapids?
Under the supervision of the Crossing Guard Supervisor with oversight from the Public Safety Department, the crossing guard assists school-age children to cross the street to and from school safely.
- Provides great customer service by greeting and escorting pedestrians, primarily children, across the street at designated intersections throughout the City.
- Communicates traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adults.
- Observes and reports incidents, unsafe behavior or conditions that present a potential safety hazard to the school children, Crossing Guard or the general public, to school officials or the Adult Crossing Guard Supervisor.
- Performs other related work as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Reliable transportation to post with the ability to move posts if necessary.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
- Excellent customer service skills, including responding diplomatically to customer questions and complaints.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally.
- Ability to problem-solve, and work effectively under stress, when faced with changes in work priorities.
- Physically capable of walking and standing for periods of time.
