What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Quartermaster position at City of East Lansing?
The Quartermaster (Property Room Officer) is responsible for all property entering the custody and control of the East Lansing Police Department. This includes but is not limited to found, recovered or confiscated property.
The Quartermaster is responsible for accepting property and ensuring that it is properly packaged, logged, and secured within the Property Room. This includes retrieving, processing, identifying, recording, storing, securing, and ensuring the safekeeping of property and evidence according to established laws, procedures, and policies. The Quartermaster is also responsible for documenting and maintaining chain of custody records, transporting property/evidence to and from the crime lab for processing, and property disposal per policy. The Quartermaster is responsible for tracking and monitoring cases in the agency reporting system to track and manage property following applicable rules and laws. The Quartermaster also maintains and manages all aspects of police property at an off-site impound lot.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be able to effectively interact and communicate with audiences both internally and externally from various social, cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree is desired. Candidates must pay close attention to detail; work effectively and productively with others; and effectively coordinate, perform, and complete multiple duties and assignments concurrently and on time. Preference will be given to those with law enforcement and property management experience.

In order perform the essential functions of this position, an individual may be required to maintain a physical condition necessary for walking, standing, sitting, balancing, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, lifting, dragging, throwing, digital dexterity, twisting the body, talking, hearing and seeing. The job requires an incumbent to move and lift heavy or bulky items and/or equipment and be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Employees must be able to safely operate motor vehicles.
