What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Custodian position at City of East Point, GA?
The Maintenance Custodian is under direct supervision of the Public Works Department, Building & Grounds Division. The Maintenance Custodian performs maintenance custodial duties to include overall building and grounds maintenance and minor repair functions.
Major Duties
- Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors by hand or machine; cleans carpet, upholstery, furniture, ashes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings;
- Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, dusts and vacuums office carpets and floors, locks and unlocks doors; moves 50 pounds or less equipment and furniture;
- Collects and disposes of waste, shovels snow, maintains outside sidewalks, and assists in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition;
- Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and programs;
- Performs related work as required;
- Request the restocks as needed of materials and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.
Knowledge Required by the Position
- Knowledge of cleaning and waxing compounds;
- Floor buffers and custodial equipment;
- Basic tools utilized in building maintenance;
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair work;
- Knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures;
- Skilled in the operation of a variety of hand tools;
- Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions,
- Make routine decisions independently;
- Sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity;
- Skill in using independent judgment and discretion and prioritizing of assignments;
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Ability to work under pressure.
