What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at City of East Point, GA?
THIS IS A TEMPORARY SUMMER POSITION.
Teachers are encouraged to apply, recent high school graduates or other mature dependable persons to work with and/or supervise summer youth day camp participants and activities. Program includes hands-on-participation with recreational, sports, arts and crafts, sports, field trips, etc. Group teaming, cooperation and problem solving skills are essential. CPR Certification and other training will be provided (which is a requirement) if not currently certified. Applicants must be available for 8 hour shift Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30 AM - 9:00 PM and will open and close the facility.
Major Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assures the safety of campers at all times. Provides cleanup and organization of utilized sports and recreation equipment
- Participates in all activities with camp groups, making camp fun for the campers, teaches skills, provides encouragement and support, serves as a positive role model.
- Plans camp activities
- Follows through with all administrative requests that support camp policies and procedures
- Drives a vehicle (15 passenger van or similar)
- Applicants must pass a Pre-Employment Background Check, MVR, Physical, Drug Screen, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; experience with youth groups in a recreation environment; CPR and First Aid required; NYSCA and/or Youth Sports Administrator preferred; Experience in education, recreation or camp counseling preferred. Valid Georgia Driver’s License; any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge Required by the Position
Physical Demands:
- Must possess the ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Must possess stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of four hours per day
- Must possess agility to climb to areas of facilities as necessary to monitor campers attending events
- Must possess sensory ability to officiate athletic events and to monitor other events for safety and conformance to rules and regulations
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in recreation environments, on fields, at various sites and facilities, both indoors and outdoors
- Work performed on this job may place the employee to occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
