This position performs administrative and technical work assisting with the license and permit process in the Planning and Zoning Department
Supervisory Controls: The Permit Coordinator and Assistant Permit Coordinator assign work to achieve department goals and objectives.
Guidelines: Guidelines include City and departmental policies and procedures, City zoning ordinances, Georgia NAIC Code Book and Secretary of State policies and regulations.
Complexity: The work consists of a variety of technical and administrative duties.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to coordinate and implement activities related to the issuances of lawful business licenses and construction permits.
Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with co-workers and the public.
Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting at a desk. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring dexterity.
Work Environment: The work is typically performed in an office.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility: None.
- Processes permits by receiving permit and project applications, verifies information and routes for review, fee calculation and issue permit numbers.
- Prepares files, cards, and fee receipts.
- Provides courteous and professional customer service.
- Receives and schedules requests for building inspections and distributes to inspectors.
- Assists developers, contractors and the public on building issues, property information using appropriate procedures and regulations.
- Performs administrative tasks such as answering phones, composing memos, letters and reports, scanning, filing and records retention.
- Prepares monthly reports on permitting activities.
- Maintains current listing of business licenses.
- Knowledge of basic office skills, practices, and procedures, including filing and general clerical functions.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to business licensing.
- Knowledge of business and general accounting principles, including the preparation of purchase orders, deposit slips and invoices.
- Skill in operating modern office equipment.
- Ability to schedule, organize, and execute assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate, meet and interact with the public and employees in a courteous and pleasant manner.
- Ability to accurately record and transfer data and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret information and make sound judgements.
