What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reserve Police Officer - Part-Time position at City of East Point?
· Provides visible security to the court room, City Hall, City Council Meetings and the City Tax cashiers window for both employees and the general public;
· Conducts warrant pickups within metro Atlanta area and transports; inmates to Fulton County Jail;
· Provides armed escort for court cashiers and tax cashiers to deposit funds received by City Hall;
· Drafts police reports as necessary;
· Performs other related duties as assigned by Chief of Police.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have more than eight (8) years of service in Law Enforcement
- Must have an active and valid Georgia certification as a Peace Officer through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.)
- May be currently employed in Law Enforcement, in good standing in the State of Georgia, with written authorization from the Agency Head to work part-time for the East Point Police Department
- May be a former Law Enforcement Officer who meets the minimum years of experience and currently has a valid GA POST Certification as a Peace Officer
- May be Retired from a Law Enforcement Agency, if in good standing with the agency at the time of retirement, and currently has a valid GA POST Certification as a Peace Officer
- Must have a valid State of Georgia driver’s license
- May have equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have a “Basic Law Enforcement” certification through the State of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (PBLE #)
· Knowledge of acceptable police procedures and applicable laws governing local and state jurisdictions commensurate with P.O.S.T. certification;
· Knowledge of the policies and procedures established by the East Point Police Department.
· Knowledge of Georgia records retention laws;
· Knowledge of policies and procedures covering inmate security, classification, care and discipline;
· Ability to exercise sound judgment in and management of routine and emergency situations;
· Ability to work in a hazardous working environment;
· Ability to deal tactfully and firmly with inmates and the public;
· Ability to operate metal detection devices;
· Ability to prepare and maintain records;
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees;
· Ability to operate radio for communication purposes;
· Ability to understand and carry out oral and written orders;
· Ability to complete and pass mandatory fire arm range training;
· Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license;
· Ability to adhere to the established chain of command.
Supervisory Controls: The Police Chief assigns work in terms of departmental goals and objectives. The work is reviewed through conferences, reports and observation of activities.
Guidelines: Guidelines include federal, state and local laws and departmental policies and procedures. These guidelines require sound judgment and interpretation in application.
Complexity: Tactfulness and firmness are required as contacts range from employees and citizens to potentially harmful inmates. Application of independent judgment in the execution of duties and response to emergency situations is required.
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to ensure employees and visitors are safe and secure at city buildings and meetings, provide prisoner warrant pickup, transfer inmates to County jail facility, act as armed escort of financial deposits and writing reports. Successful and independent execution of duties results an increase in security, a safer business atmosphere and allows augmentation of services provided by patrol officers.

Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems and provide services.
Physical Demands: Strong hand-eye coordination; walking, kneeling or repeated bending; light lifting and long periods of sitting or standing
Work Environment: Work is performed outside and inside with exposure to heat, cold, noise, confined spaces, stress, potentially dangerous people, travel between sites around city and county and disruption of sleep patterns as a result of rotation and/or irregular shift work.
