Planning Department Intern - City Trees Project
Grant Funded – Seasonal Position
$2250 Stipend / Varied Hours April - August
Summary: Under the Supervision of a Senior Planner and Supervisors of the Parks Department, the Planning Department Intern performs work related to the Tree Equity and Workforce Education Program (City Trees Project). The Planning Department Intern plants, maintains, and catalogues trees throughout the City.
General Responsibilities:
- Plants, waters, and maintains trees in areas throughout the City.
- Enters and maintains tree-related data in the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Researches planting areas and ideal tree species for each site.
- Performs related work as required.
Desirable Abilities, Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
- Coursework in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related discipline
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using office productivity software like Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and ability to learn quickly.
- Interest in learning about trees, urban forestry, and community planning.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform physical work such as digging, lifting, and watering.
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
