HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday (40 Hrs./Week)
DESCRIPTION:
This position is a member of Easthampton Department of Public Works, Highway Department. Operates heavy equipment, performs manual labor, related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works infrastructure; inspects the equipment for proper operating condition; carries out preventive maintenance procedures; related work as required.
Ability to work extended periods of time during emergencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates Class B trucks and Class 2 and 4 hydraulic equipment normally assigned to a public works equipment operator. Type of equipment varies by the assigned division.
- Inspect equipment prior to operation to assure that all controls and safety devices are functioning properly. Lubricate and otherwise service the equipment as part of a programmed preventive maintenance schedule. Report malfunctions to the Foreman or Supervisor. May assist in making repairs.
- Performs related manual labor work.
- Perform similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent; and one year of related work or technical training to perform assigned duties at the journeyman level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements (*within 6 months of hire)
Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License
Massachusetts Class 2A, 4G or 4E Hoisting Engineer’s License
OSHA 10 Certification.
