What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Adult Reference Librarian position at City of Eastpointe?
Provides materials, assistance, and service to the general public seeking information and participates in or conducts special programs in the Library.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting within a public library. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
- Provides reference service to assist the public with questions regarding the use of the catalog system, online service, and public access to computers.
- Conducts reference searches, analyzes patron information requests to identify and recommend appropriate resources.
- Recommends, withdraws, discards, or replaces dated materials or resources.
- Assists patrons in the selection and location of books and materials.
- Researches, reviews, and recommends library resources.
- Instructs the use of the library and enforces library policies and procedures to the public.
- Assists in planning programs or projects.
- Promotes the library collection and programs in the form of bibliographies, flyers, brochures, and social media.
- Basic knowledge of the youth services.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures as found in the library personnel manual and the Eastpointe Memorial Library employee manual
- Work on special projects as needed.
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or a master's degree in a related field
- Experience working in customer service and/or public relations
- Experience providing activities and programs to children and/or adults
