Position Title: Specialized Heavy Equipment Operator
Annual Salary Range: $41,641.60
General Summary: Under general supervision performs duties necessary for the repair and maintenance of City streets, right-of-ways and City owned parking areas. Reports to the Public Works Superintendent
Description: Performs tree removal and trimming, while operating related equipment, such as bucket truck and chain saws, during the process of tree trimming and tree removal in potential adverse weather conditions and at varying heights
Uses power chainsaws, handsaws, pole pruners and other tools to remove dead, broken and undesired limbs and trees
Operates mowing equipment as needed for mowing and clearing on right-of-ways along City streets and City-owned land parcels and parks utilizing appropriate equipment.
Operates a mechanical pump sprayer in order to apply herbicides to unwanted vegetation in specific areas. May also operate back pack sprayers, granular herbicide applicators and related equipment
Performs routine inspection and maintenance on designated equipment to ensure safe and proper working condition; refers needed repairs to the vehicle maintenance division
Responsible for daily pre-trip inspection, as well as general maintenance, such as checking and adding fuel, checking oil and water levels, checking brake and light inspections, and greasing aerial boom
Installs and removes Christmas decorations, tarps and shade structures
Demonstrates thorough understanding of ANSI A300 pruning standards and has competency in tree limb removal and roping techniques
Responds to after-hours call outs related to down trees and other emergencies requiring bucket truck operations
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma required
1 – 3 years of experience in operating the job related equipment required
1 – 3 years of experience in safe tree trimming and tree removal practices
Experienced Knowledge of ANSI 300 Standards
Valid Florida Commercial Class “B” driver’s license required
Ability to obtain the following licenses/certifications within one year required.
Bucket Truck Safety Training
Electrical Hazard Awareness (EHAP) Certification
Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) Certification
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
