The City of Edina is seeking Lifeguard Leads for the 2025 Aquatic Center Season,
June 5, 2025 - August 17, 2025
This position will assist with leading and training lifeguards, managing pool operations, and ensuring the safety of patrons at the Edina Aquatic Center (EAC). This is a seasonal role suited for experienced lifeguards looking to grow in a leadership role. It is extremely visible, highly interactive, and physically enduring.
This position is supervised by Lifeguard Instructors and the Facility Coordinator of the Edina Aquatic Center and Edinborough Park. This position reports to the Facility Coordinator of the Edina Aquatic Center and Edinborough Park.

- Monitor guest safety in the water and on deck to prevent aquatic emergencies.
- Model and enforce rules promptly and properly to ensure guest safety.
- Minimize and eliminate hazardous situations to prevent injury.
- Maintain a high level of readiness (mental, physical, emotional) to respond to emergency situations with water rescue, first aid, and CPR.
- Appropriately use all available rescue equipment and execute facility Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
- Assist with executing weekly in-service sessions, ensuring all metrics of the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training program are strictly adhered to.
- Notify Lifeguard Instructors of disturbances, emergencies and staff performance concerns.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and report safety or mechanical problems immediately.
- Assist with documenting incidents and injuries that occur within the facility.
- Assist Lifeguard Instructors with facility opening and closing procedures.
- Uphold the City of Edina values of Integrity, Quality, and Service (IQS) in all interactions with guests and other staff.
Flexible schedule shifts include days, evenings, weekends and holidays (approximately 24 - 40 hours/week). Typical shift times include:
- Weekdays
- AM Swim – 5:45-11am
- First Shift – 11:15am-4:00pm
- Second Shift – 3:45-8:30pm
- Weekends
- Lap Swim – 7:45-10am
- First Shift – 9:45am-3:30pm
- Second Shift – 3:15-8:30pm
Shift start or end times may vary due to facility needs. Examples include inclement weather, lifeguard staffing levels, special events, rentals, and training sessions.

Seasonal Commitment Program
Receive a $200 incentive when you work the entire seasonal season June 5, 2025 - August 17, 2025, at the Edina Aquatic Center. Eligible employees (current City of Edina seasonal/part-time employees) will receive the lump sum payment if they work the entire season, with satisfactory performance with no unexcused absences. Lifeguards must work through August 17 and a minimum of 275 hours to be eligible for the commitment bonus.

- 17 years or older
- Current Ellis & Associates Basic Lifeguard License/Course Completion Credential
- 1 year of lifeguarding experience.
- Model basic professional conduct in the workplace (courteous, helpful and business-like attitude), including respectful communication and civility towards others including the ability to welcome feedback & be coachable
- Ability to provide own transportation to and from assigned work location
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and ability to motivate themselves & others
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive working relationships.
Physical Requirements
- Physical requirements include swimming 200 yards, deep water brick retrieval and treading water without using arms.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision and peripheral vision.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk and hear.
- The Edina Aquatic Center is an outdoor facility, requiring work in all types of weather conditions; strong and unpleasant odors and fumes such as chlorine; noise from children; allergens such as pollen and bee stings; pool chemical fluctuations which might cause irritation to eyes and skin; and possibility of administering first aid which may involve exposure to infections leading to chronic disease or death. Applicants must be able to perform all essential position functions under the working conditions previously described.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- 2 years or more of Ellis & Associates Basic Lifeguard License AND lifeguarding experience.
- Previous leadership role in aquatic setting
- Previous participation in aquatic programming (swim/dive team, swim safety, etc.).
- Previous experience in a team setting (sports, academic teams, etc.)
Supplemental Information
Candidate MUST be available to attend and complete the Ellis & Associates Basic Lifeguarding course, and all-staff training, usually held end of May.
All uniform apparel is provided by the city.
