The City of Effingham Police Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Technical Assistant. The Technical Assistant reports to the Records Supervisor. This position is full-time, with a minimum starting wage of $24.14/hour, based on experience and training. Increases to a minimum of $24.76/hour after six months of service. Duties:
- Prepares daily news releases and special media releases;
- Answers inquiries from department personnel and other police, court, pubic safety agencies, and the media regarding local warrants, bookings, victims, suspects, convicted felons, general background checks, etc.;
- Performs counter and other requests from the public for information per privacy and Freedom of Information Act guidelines for general information and direction;
- Performs data entry of activity information into computerized information systems;
- Fields and retrieves materials using established filing system; sorts and indexes materials for filing and distribution;
- Maintains and updates files, mailing, database systems, records, either manually or using a computer-related software;
- Responds to requests for information following state and federal laws and regulations for information dissemination;
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
· Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two
years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education
and experience;
· Experience with Word Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
