Job Overview
The Opportunity : The City currently has a one full-time benefitted position and one part-time benefitted position available. The part time position is limited to 20 hours per week.
The City of El Cajon is currently searching for Forensic Latent Print Examiners to provide forensic services and support within the A2LA accredited Forensic Laboratory at the El Cajon Police Department. In this role, the individual will individualize latent prints by analyzing prints left at crimes scenes and evidence. The candidate will also author official reports, photograph, document, and collect evidence at crime scenes, process evidence for prints, search prints in AFIS, train others in print collection and AFIS, and provide expert courtroom testimony. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver, innovative, professional, and have a great attention to detail.

The Recruitment Process :
The most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process which includes a Qualifications Appraisal Interview. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list for employment consideration for at least six months. The Qualifications Appraisal Interviews have been tentatively scheduled for March 5, 2025.
Candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a thorough background investigation, including credit check, polygraph, medical examination, and drug screen.

Qualification Guidelines
Education : Associates of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college in criminalistics, evidence technology, administration of justice, biology, chemistry, or related field.
Experience : At least three years of experience in a Forensic related field performing casework within an accredited laboratory is required.
Special Requirements : Certification as a Latent Print Examiner by the International Association for Identification is highly desired. Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class C California driver's license with a safe driving record.
