What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Reserve (Unpaid) position at City of El Cajon?
*This is a temporary, unpaid, non-benefitted position*
The El Cajon Police Department runs an active Reserve Officer Program. Depending on the level of training and certification, an El Cajon Reserve Officer may work as an additional officer in a patrol car or provide support as a single person car.
Duties include:
•Providing patrol of the streets and highways by car, bicycle and on foot
•Maintaining order and preventing crimes or juvenile delinquency
•Directing traffic
•Investigating complaints
•Guarding and transporting prisoners
•Writing reports
•Issuing traffic and parking tickets
While a full list of qualifications will be provided upon request, the applicant must be 21 years of age, reside in San Diego County, possess a high school diploma or GED, pass a physical agility test, be in good health, and possess a California Driver’s License. The applicant must take and pass a psychological exam, a polygraph test, a medical exam and a background investigation. Additionally, the applicant must have completed a POST Basic Police Academy, or a POST Reserve Academy.
You may be eligible to become a Reserve Officer if you:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid California Driver’s license
- Meet United States citizenship requirements as defined under California Government Code sections 1031(a) and 1031.5
- Have graduated from United States high school, possess a GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate.
- No felony convictions as a juvenile or adult and cannot be on probation.
- Must have a good character and reputation.
- Must have completed a basic police or reserve academy.
