Salary Range: $19.23 - $26.93 per hour

This is the first level in a four-level Maintenance and Operations - Utilities classification series. This position is responsible for serving as a Field Utilities Technician (meter services) trainee in the operation of utility billing meter infrastructure. Incumbents will work with certified operators under close supervision.

The following is intended to describe the core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the City’s needs.
- Performs installations, repairs, replacements, and or removal of water meters, meter boxes, and meter lids as required.
- Receive and process requests for field investigation and meter issues.
- Turn water services ON/OFF in accordance with service orders and record necessary information.
- Installs construction hydrant water meter and witness backflow assemblies.
- Provides field customer service related to new service, high bill complaints, flow checks, and or other related issues.
- Investigate and evaluate customer complaints related to water usage, water leaks, and no water service.
- Read meters and record water meter readings and meter conditions on a tablet.
- Locates and reads buried or flooded meters.
- Cleans meter boxes.
- Follows standard operating procedures for operation, repair, and maintenance activities.
- Enters data and maintains logs and records.
- Performs related work as assigned.

Education and Experience:
