New Hire Salary: $22.25 - $25.20 per hour. 

Salary range: $22.25 - $31.15 per hour.

The Maintenance Technician, Senior is responsible for performing routine maintenance activities specializing in recreation areas of responsibility, ranging from more basic grounds, equipment, and facilities maintenance to more advanced technical troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, plumbing, and irrigation systems. This classification level has two competency ranks.

The following is intended to describe the core work functions of this classification.  While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the City’s needs. 

  • Routinely and regularly performs maintenance and repairs on electric-mechanical systems.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and makes skilled repairs to irrigation systems, as assigned.
  • Applies pesticides to weeds, as assigned.
  • Makes electrical, plumbing, painting, concrete, or asphalt repairs as assigned.
  • Maintains street signage and striping, as assigned.
  • Operates maintenance software.
  • Operates specialized equipment or heavy equipment.
  • Sets up traffic control zones, as assigned.
  • Assists in monitoring the work of lower-level staff.
  • Performs routine cleaning, grounds maintenance, or basic equipment repairs. 
  • Operates hand tools and light mechanical/electrical equipment as assigned. 
  • Inspects premises for safety and cleanliness; identifies repairs needed. 
  • Operates a motor vehicle to drive to work locations throughout the city.
  • Prepares logs and records.
  • Maintains compliance with safety requirements, applicable work methods, and procedures. 
  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Methods of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical or mechanical issues, as assigned.

  • Recreation amenities, splash-pad operations, sports field maintenance, and playground equipment.

  • Patrolling and inspecting facilities and grounds and identifying safety or repair issues.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical or electrical systems, as assigned.
  • Comprehending reference books and manuals, as assigned.

  • Maintaining logs and records.
  • Following safe driving practices.
  • Entering data into a maintenance management system, as assigned.
  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards as assigned.

  • Safely operating a motor vehicle.

Education and Experience:


High school diploma or GED and 2 years of related maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.


Certifications/Licenses:


Arizona Class D Driver’s License. 

Arizona Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement based on the assignment and determined by the department

Certifications and licenses are based on the assignment and determined by the department director.

  • Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry and within the specified timeframe.

Type of Work:

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.


Physical Requirements:

The following physical activities are essential to the performance of the job:  climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting,  grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions. 


Work Environment/Conditions:

Work time is split between indoors, outdoors, and in a vehicle and is subject to moderate hazardous physical conditions, atmospheric conditions, extreme temperatures, intense noise, travel, and environmental threats.
