CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Cultural Arts and Special Events (DCASE) is seeking a Full-Time Marketing Coordinator to support the promotion and visibility of cultural arts programs, special events and Hemmens Cultural Center events. This position is responsible for developing graphics, support content, press releases, social media content, outreach materials, and managing the department’s websites. Additionally, the role involves securing advertising placements with appropriate partners to enhance event visibility. Through strategic communication and outreach, this position ensures community engagement and broad participation in department initiatives. This role reports to the DCASE director.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, experience in graphic design and advertising, and excellent communication abilities. They should be creative, collaborative, and engaged in their work. This position will work closely with the DCASE, the Hemmens Cultural Center, and community partners to enhance the presence of cultural and special events within the Elgin community.
The Marketing Coordinator position may require occasional lifting of materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as tasks such as setting up tables, assembling tents, hanging banners, and performing other similar duties. This role requires the ability to work an average of 40–50 hours per week, including weekends and extended hours as needed.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Key Responsibilities:
This position will work within DCASE and collaborate with other city departments and partners to create, promote and execute marketing strategies that maximize event attendance, engagement, and visibility.
- Work with DCASE and HCC teams to create and execute marketing plans for events.
- Develop and design marketing materials, including graphics, event posters, postcards, stickers, press releases, social media content, outreach materials, etc.
- Support event marketing and programming initiatives to increase attendance, engagement, and overall visibility in Elgin and surrounding communities.
- Create and distribute Special Events and Hemmens Cultural Center Newsletters via Mail Chimp as well as any other MailChimp notifications.
- Maintain and update the department’s websites with accurate and engaging content.
- Secure advertising placements and establish partnerships to enhance event visibility, collaborating with local businesses, community organizations, and stakeholders.
- Represent the DCASE among community partners to promote cultural and special events within Elgin.
- Execute strategic communication and outreach efforts to drive public engagement and awareness, ensuring marketing deadlines are met while working with the Communications Department.
- Track marketing metrics and analyze campaign performance to optimize future strategies.
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, organizations (e.g., Downtown Neighborhood Association, Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce), and influencers to enhance promotional efforts.
- Assist in event planning, logistics, and on-site coordination as needed to ensure proper and effective media coverage and marketing efforts.
- Act as a liaison between the team and the Communications Department, ensuring clear and consistent messaging.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Prior experience in marketing for events, cultural arts, or related fields is preferred but not required.
Education:- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications or related field.
- Two to three years of marketing experience required; marketing experience within the arts and events fields preferred.
