What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Seasonal Laborer - Streets Division position at City of Elgin, IL?
CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Performs general maintenance and repair work in the Public Works Department. Work is performed primarily in an outdoor setting, under general supervision.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
Responsible for assisting staff with general maintenance related tasks including, but not limited to:
- Pot hole patching
- Crack sealing
- Debris removal
- Litter pickup
- Facility maintenance and shop cleaning
- Installing and removing street and traffic signs
- Identifying street lights and traffic signs in need of repair or replacement
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid Illinois drivers license
- Must be able to work under all types of weather conditions and to lift, carry, and pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials of at least 30 lbs. repeatedly and 50 lbs. occasionally. Climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching are required, as well as the ability to work in hot and/or dusty conditions.
- Must be able to speak, read and comprehend English clearly
- Be able to understand and follow written and oral directions
- Be able to work independently
- Maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor with other employees and the general public.
- Wear appropriate clothing (uniform) and shoes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Candidate chosen must successfully complete the background process which also includes:
- Background check (fingerprinting)
- Drug screening
- Back stress screening
- Driving Record assessment
Monday - Friday, 1st shift.
Work 40 hours per week for the season which is approximately 12 weeks.
