CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
This position will be responsible for maintaining the parks, grounds and facilities of the City of Elgin.
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
- Operate power mowers, tractors, edgers, string trimmers and other maintenance equipment
- Performs maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
- Performs litter pickup and emptying of trash receptacles
- Facility maintenance including daily cleaning of restrooms
- Assist park patrons with questions and direct them to the proper people and locations
- Maintain a positive public image and attitude with good public relations and customer service
- Wear appropriate staff uniform
- Abide by all City of Elgin rules and regulations as outlined in the Employee Manual
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions and to lift, carry & pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials. Climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching are required, as well as work in dusty conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience with small engines and riding equipment desired
- Ability to work pleasantly with patrons and fellow employees
- Ability to enforce all rules and Policies of the City in a diplomatic manner
- Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license
- Must pass drug and background checks
