Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Foreman, the Groundskeeper performs low level routine tasks in the cleaning, maintenance and improvement of parks and city grounds. This position will be responsible for maintaining grounds in city’s parks by picking up debris, trimming trees, mowing grass, changing trash bags in trash cans, landscaping grounds and cleaning restrooms.
Supervision:
Reports to: Foreman; position will not have direct supervision over other staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
HS Diploma/GED from an accredited institution and any related experience.
License and Certifications:
Must posses a valid Texas Driver's license, and be able to maintain it throughout tenure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· May assist with controlling vegetation growth by preparing and applying pesticides and the proper disposal of pesticides.
- Responsible for the cleaning, washing, preventative maintenance, repairs, and routine servicing of all assigned equipment.
· Performs daily rounds of facilities to pick up trash, empty cans; clean park facility restrooms and inspect all areas for damage/vandalism.
- May be required to work overtime, be available for call out after hours and weekends to include holidays.
· Supports special events by setting up, tearing down, and other miscellaneous duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge in the mechanical operation of light equipment, common tools, materials, and methods used in maintaining grounds.
· Knowledge and understanding of safety precautions while working in and around traffic, buildings, and people.
· Skilled in making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and tools.
· Skilled in safely lifting, pulling, and pushing materials and equipment.
· Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time while working outdoors in extreme temperatures.
- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of City employees and the public.
· Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

Interpersonal Relationships
Consistently working with other team members will work as part of a crew with other team members, including, traveling to sites with crew.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
This position requires work outdoors in all types of weather; exposure to outdoor elements, loud noises, vibrations, and respiratory hazards such as dust, gases, chemicals, and bacteria. The environment can be noisy and distracting. Requires physical work; heavy lifting requires objects of at least 50 pounds and push, drag or pull objects up to 100 pounds. This position will involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require the following basic safety precautions.
Disaster Service Workers Clause
Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees’ normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
