SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision, this position is responsible for working the front desk at the Recreation Center. This role must demonstrate good communication and customer service skills, competency with computers, basic math, and money handling. This position is regularly assigned cleaning duties, including workspace, studios, restrooms, and outside areas.
POSITION HOURS: Monday-Friday, 1 PM - 10 PM. Must have weekend availability.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and with no direct supervision of other positions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma/GED from an accredited education agency; AND experience in customer service.
License and Certifications:
Driver’s License preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
· Greets and welcomes all visitors, guests, staff, and volunteers to the Center.
· Responds to customer inquiries by phone, email and in person.
· Provides programming information about center’s events and offerings.
· Promotes the Recreation Center through increased memberships.
· Registers participants and schedules facility rentals utilizing software.
· Receives and processes payments.
· Monitor the use of program facility and that equipment is being used safely.
· Cleaning and Custodial duties throughout the center.
· May assist with training new staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of Recreation Services and Programming, and Facilities.
· Knowledge of business English with the ability to write in complete sentences using appropriate words, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
· Skilled in use of Microsoft programs, including Teams.
· Skilled in basic math and money handling.
· Skilled in providing exceptional customer service and resolving problems.
· Ability to communicate to convey or exchange general work-related information or service to internal or external customers.
· Ability to manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and discretion; demonstrate ethical conduct and professionalism; establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, staff, other departments, and the public.

In a typical work setting, the Recreation Center Assistant will:
Interpersonal Relationships
Have a high level of social contact working closely with staff in shared workspaces, and maintains daily contact in person, by phone and email with city staff, contractors, volunteers and the public.
Hours/Travel
May be required to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or for special projects/assignments.
Predictable and regular attendance is considered an essential job function for this position.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Works indoors and outdoors and in close proximity of others. May travel by foot or vehicle to other City buildings. Frequently required to sit, stand at computer while using hands, arms, and fingers to reach and input data in systems. Exposure to higher than normal noise levels. May lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
Disaster Service Workers Clause
In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employee’s may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Suh assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees; normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
