SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Recreation Center Coordinator oversees the daily operations and activities of the Elgin Recreation Center, including scheduling, supervising and developing staff and class instructors; maintaining the facility and equipment; creating, marketing, and implementing fitness and sports related programming. This position requires a highly motivated and organized individual with excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about recreation and community engagement, dedicated to leading and developing staff, creative in solving problems effectively and efficiently, and able to adapt to a changing environment and unexpected situations. The Recreation Center Coordinator shall represent the City in a positive way, both on duty and in connection with City sponsored activities.
This position requires at least one early morning shift and one evening shift a week, and two weekend days per month.
Supervision:
Reports to: Recreation and Leisure Manager. The Recreation Center Coordinator directly supervises part time and full time front desk employees and contractors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma/GED and 2 years related work experience that includes leading, supervising, and developing diverse teams, maintaining facilities, and marketing. Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Experience in sports, fitness, or coaching preferred, but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
1. Provides direct supervision to Elgin Recreation Center employees, including communication, direction, training, hiring, handling conflict, performance management, scheduling, and approving timesheets
2. Coordinate and oversee Rec Center activities, including class offerings, schedules, and sports leagues.
3. Recruit contract instructors to expand current fitness classes and programs.
4. Monitor all facility equipment and building for safety and maintenance needs.
5. Lead marketing efforts for Elgin Recreation Center classes, programs, and memberships, including social media posts and flyer creation.
6. Monitor and track event expenses within allotted budget for classes and programs.
7. Monitor inventory and purchase necessary supplies for programs and facility.
8. Manage city venue rentals, including making reservations, ensuring contracts are completed, collecting/refunding deposits, and monitoring usage.
9. Maintain accurate records of program participation, attendance, and financial transactions.

· Knowledge of maintenance and upkeep of recreation facility and equipment requirements.
· Knowledge of relevant software for registration, scheduling, and communication, including CivicRec, CivicPlus, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
· Knowledge of inventory management and scheduling.

In a typical work setting, Recreation Coordinator:
Interpersonal Relationships
Have a high level of social contact, working closely with other staff, volunteers, consultants, and members of the community. Frequently communicate with people by phone, e-mail, and in person. May be subjected to irate members of the public, who may use profanity.
Hours/Travel
The work schedule requires flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays and will typically consist of working 40 hours per week. May require overtime to meet the needs of the department.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Work indoors and outdoors, will travel to other city buildings and parks by foot or vehicle. Requires the ability to quickly and frequently walk, sit, stand, bend, reach, stretch, carry objects/boxes weighing up to 25 pounds, operate computer equipment and other facility equipment. Exposure to constant noise and interruptions.
Disaster Service Workers Clause
In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees’ normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
