Position provides short-term, direct therapeutic services to individuals and when additional resources are needed, refers individuals to other social service providers. The coordination and delivery of social services are provided to both adults and juveniles which include crisis intervention, short-term counseling, case management, and personal and court advocacy. This position will be responsible for developing collaborative working relationships with other social service agencies, emergency shelters, hospitals, and Elgin area schools.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide short-term assessment and counseling for individuals, families, groups, and crime victims as needed and as identified through the police department, self-referral, and referrals from community partners. Provide crisis intervention as necessary to help assess individual needs. Provide intervention and counseling for youths and adults coming into contact with Adjudication Court. Provide services for domestic violence victims which may include the following: crisis intervention, risk-of-harm assessment and safety planning, assistance in obtaining orders of protection, education on the dynamic of domestic violence, the legal system, court and personal advocacy, and short-term counseling to include case management. Provide support to crime victims throughout the reporting and investigative processes which may include the following: crisis intervention, assistance with completion of victim compensation forms, personal advocacy, emotional support during the investigative and court process and the identification of needed resources. Maintain confidential case files which include social history, diagnosis, formulation of treatment and documentation of services. On a rotating basis, be available to respond to after-hour calls. Upon request, provide community presentations on an array of social service topics. Adhere to and understand the applicable policies, procedures, and orders of the department.Establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers to include other city employees in addition to the collaboration with community partners and stakeholders. Keep informed of crime trends within the city and attend daily roll call briefings to maintain familiarity with areas of concern. Adhere to all verbal and written orders issued by supervisors; complete reports when needed, monthly activity reports, and other required documentation. Perform such other duties as may be required by state law, city ordinance, and department policy or as may be assigned by a supervisor. Duties may occasionally be deleted, or additional duties may be assigned permanently or temporarily in order to accomplish departmental and city objectives.
