What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Youth Employment Program position at City of Elgin?
- be 15-18 years old (15 yr olds — must obtain a work permit from school counselor)
- reside in Elgin
- qualify in the low to moderate income level.
What Will I Do?
Individuals will be placed in a variety of job duties within our Parks and Recreation department working in as a pool attendant, fitness assistant, or working with our grounds recreation department. The location for specific jobs will vary depending on where the job is located. In addition, employees will attend sessions that cover topics help develop skills with resume building and interview skills. Sessions are facilitated by city staff, community partners and local businesses.
This unique program will be limited to the first 75 applications that meet the eligibility requirements. Only one participant per household will be eligible for this program.
When Will I work?
Employment dates will be from June 9 - August 8, 2025. Rate of pay for all positions will be $15.00 per hour, with each individual working 30 hours/week. Before being hired, candidates must pass a drug test.

To be eligible for the City of Elgin Summer Youth Internship Program you must meet the following criteria for family income.

One of the following documents is required for proof of income:
- Copy of the current school year free lunch or reduced lunch letter.
- Proof that child is in a certified foster home.
- Parent/Guardian most recent U.S. 1040.
- If using the most recent U.S. 1040 as proof of income, the child must be listed as a dependent.
