Responsible for directing, supervising, and coordinating the City's Fire prevention strategies by conducting inspection, enforcing fire codes, conducting fire investigations and performing fire and life safety plan reviews.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This job class is a management level classification that oversees and coordinates fire prevention services and operations for the City.

- Oversees and participates in provision of fire prevention services and activities; assist in the planning, organizing, and reviewing of the activities.
- Administers fire prevention programs including public education, fire education in schools, and home smoke detectors.
- Oversees and conducts inspections of schools, hospitals, industrial and commercial buildings, and property for fire hazards, efficiency of fire protective equipment, adequacy of fire exits and general compliance with fire prevention laws and standards; process for abatement; examines storage, handling, and use of hazardous materials and enforce related codes regarding correction of hazards; issue orders to comply with codes.
- Oversees and conducts inspections of special events within the City.
- Maintains records and files related to inspections, fire losses, investigations and fire deaths/injuries.
- Evaluates new fire prevention and suppression products and make recommendations to the Fire Chief regarding possible purchases.
- Meets with citizen groups, organizations, contractors, architects, engineers, and developers regarding fire protection systems, access requirements, building requirements, and other fire prevention life safety issues; conducts oral presentations and provide information on fire codes and fire prevention activities.
- Prepares, updates, and enforces City fire codes, ordinances, and standards; develop and implement a comprehensive code enforcement program.
- Responds to major fires and emergency and non-emergency calls on an on-call basis; perform functions within Incident Command System at major incidents; notifies fire staff of any unusual fire hazards.
- Conducts plan reviews for site plans, water fire flow calculation, fire suppression, and alarm systems.
- Ensures that safe work practices and procedures are followed and that appropriate safety equipment is utilized.
- Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in fire sciences, public administration or a related field; AND
- Four (4) years of fire prevention and safety inspection experience;
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Nevada Driver’s License.
- ICC Fire Inspector II certification, or obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification, or obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification, or obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- IAAI Fire Investigation Technician certification, or obtained within one (1) year of hire.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an office and a field setting.
Work is subject to performance under exposure to environmental conditions, in intense life-threatening conditions, with exposure to fire, smoke, fumes, dust, electrical hazards, vibration, hazardous chemicals, flammable materials, heights, confined work spaces and intense noise. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur.

Salary : $95,389 - $128,294
