What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Intern (Part-time/Contract) position at City of Encinitas?
Traffic Interns are responsible for performing a variety of activities in a learning capacity working in support of the Traffic Engineering Division.
This is a part-time, temporary, contract position. Incumbents work less than 1000 hours per fiscal year at approximately 19 hours a week for a one-year term.
- Preforms assignments under supervision of a Traffic Engineer or Project/Task Manager.
- Performs a number of traffic surveys, including turning movement counts, pedestrian counts, parking studies, and speed surveys.
- Assists with drafting signing and striping plans and exhibits using various software, such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
- Installs traffic data collection devices along roadways and preforms data analysis from collected field data.
- Creates and submits work orders to the Streets Department based on direction from the Traffic Engineer.
- Takes input from citizens on traffic related issues at the public counter and/or in the field.
- Assists with administrative tasks, such as delivering agendas and setting up for Traffic & Public Safety Commission meetings.
- Familiarity with traffic engineering principles.
- Experience with MS Office software and AutoCAD software.
- Knowledge of the MUTCD and California Vehicle Code.
- Must be able to use a ladder and basic power tools for traffic data collection device installations.
- Must be able to work in a professional work environment and work with members of the public in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability of organize and maintain project files.
- Efficiently utilize time in executing assigned tasks accurately.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is required.
- Applicants must be willing and able to work outdoors, specifically in the roadways.
