POSITION SUMMARY
The Deputy Director of Engineering and Asset Management for the Public Works Department is responsible for driving overall department success through the administration of the Capital Projects and Engineering Division, as well as Street Maintenance and Asset Management for the Department. Serves as a part of the Public Works executive leadership team. Ensures alignment with the vision, mission, and values of the City of Englewood.
With a strategic mindset, proactively foresee future possibilities and translate them into innovative strategies that align with organizational goals. Plan and prioritize work, ensuring the Engineering Team meets commitments while managing the complexities of city infrastructure. Skilled in analyzing complex engineering problems and offering effective solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Gathers and interprets a variety of information to recommend and implement solutions relating to engineering designs, construction, operations and strategies. Stays current on organization plans and needs, and industry tools and technology.
- Make decisions independently regarding interpretation of design standards and policies, permitting issues, assisting staff on their priorities and technical issues, and the review and approval of consultants’ work.
- Evaluates change feasibility and successfully implements processes within the organization.
- Prepares various division operating budgets. Monitors expenditures and ensures compliance within the approved budget. Develops an annual and long-term (5-10 years) capital improvement plan for all department-managed assets.
- Works with other governmental agencies in the development, coordination, and implementation of various projects. Enforces all adopted policies and regulations pertaining to Public Works as identified in the Englewood Municipal Code; ensures compliance of all operations with all federal, state, and regional laws, permits, reporting requirements and environmental regulations.
- Evaluates and prepares comments and recommendations on issues raised by the City Manager and or City Council and others as appropriate.
- Prepares technical memos and recommendations to the City Council, the Englewood Transportation Advisory Committee and others, as directed by the Director; attends & presents at City Council meetings when required.
- Serves as the staff liaison to the Englewood Transportation Advisory Committee; attends & presents at monthly evening meetings.
- Supervises, establishes written expectations & performance standards, and develops staff. Plans, organizes, schedules, and evaluates the work of staff. Makes recommendations related to the selection of staff, staff performance, salary increases and provides for staff training and professional development. Ensure compliance with applicable personnel guidelines and employment law.
- Responsible for fostering team building between department divisions, as well as other City departments, to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Responds to public requests, issues and staff inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and effective manner.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates responses to department emergency situations.
- Facilitates and coordinates long-range planning activities.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Environmental Science or related field required.
- Advanced degree in one of these fields desired. Formal leadership and business administration training desired.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ increasingly responsible experience in Public Works administration or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
Certifications and/or Licensures
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado required.
- Certified Flood Plain Manager (CFM) preferred.
Required Driver’s License
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR

SALARY RANGE
$123,380 - $185,070/Annual Salary

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an office environment and in an industrial environment. May work near moving mechanical parts; exposed to fumes, pathogens, airborne particles and various chemicals, some of which may be toxic. The employee is exposed to various conditions including noisy, hot and cold conditions.
