POSITION SUMMARY
The Adult Services Public Library Supervisor is responsible for overseeing patron technology, reference services, readers’ advisory, and community resource support for vulnerable populations. This role provides leadership and delegation to staff, ensures excellent customer service, regularly serves as the person in charge of the library, and develops programming and partnerships that meet the diverse needs of the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, train, and support Adult Services staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, and scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage.
- Promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for staff and patrons. Uphold Englewood values.
Technology & Digital Services
- Oversee the library’s public technology services, including computers, printing, scanning, and emerging technologies.
- Provide digital literacy instruction and support for patrons using e-books, databases, and other digital resources.
- Stay current on technology trends and recommend updates to library technology services.
Reference & Readers’ Advisory
- Assist patrons with research, reference inquiries, and locating library materials.
- Provide readers’ advisory services by recommending books, audiobooks, and digital content tailored to patrons’ interests.
- Develop and maintain library resource guides, booklists, and displays to enhance patron engagement.
Community Engagement & Support for Vulnerable Populations
- Serve as a liaison to local social service organizations, connecting patrons to housing, employment, health, and other community resources.
- Develop programs and services tailored to the needs of vulnerable populations, including seniors, job seekers, individuals experiencing homelessness, and English language learners.

Programming & Outreach
- Plan, implement, and evaluate engaging adult programs, including technology workshops, book discussions, and community resource events.
- Foster partnerships with local organizations to enhance programming and outreach efforts.
- Represent the library at community meetings and events to promote services and resources.
Collaboration with other library and city departments
- Promote library programs and delegate support
- Weed outdated or underused materials according to library policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with significant library experience may be considered.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a public library, including a Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience in a library or related setting.
- Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is highly desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & SCHEDULE
- The primary schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday with an assigned evening shift each week.
- Work is performed in a public library setting, involving direct interaction with patrons, technology use, and occasional outreach activities.
