POSITION REPORTS TO: Library DirectorPOSITIONS SUPERVISED: None. BLS COMPARABLE: 43-4121 LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building,and providing feedback.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTSubject to post offer, pre-employment drug screen. Subject to a pre-employment criminal background check. High school diploma or equivalent.Basic Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher skills.Keyboarding speed of 45 wpm.English proficiency. POSITION PURPOSE: To enhance the quality of life of Enid residents and guests through the efficient operation of the City of Enid library and through the promotion of literacy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Maintains awareness of commonly used technologies and applies technology effectively for ongoing learning and collaboration.Helps to develop and maintain a collection of resources to meet community needs. Develops and maintains effective relationships with others to achieve common goals.Displays materials effectively to build 21st century literacy skills and meet lifelong learning needs of users. Works effectively in teams with strong team-building skills and attitudes. Meets standards and practices for the delivery of high-quality customer service. Manages the development of one’s own learning and ongoing improvements of skills and knowledge.Participates in professional development opportunities.Suggests materials to customers according to their needs and interests.Understands, uses, and helps others with basic computer hardware, software, mobile devices, and the internet. Performs basic word processing operations.Performs basic printing operations from common applications.Reserve, circulate, and renew library materials. Enter data to update patrons' records on computers. Answer routine reference inquiries, and refer patrons to librarians. Guide patrons in finding and using library resources, including reference materials, audiovisual equipment, computers, and electronic resources. Sort books, publications, and other items according to procedure.Deliver and retrieve items throughout the library by hand or using pushcart. Provide customer service to patrons to process card applications and/or collect lost/damaged book payments.Supply circulation desk with necessary forms.Oversee patron activities and notify supervisor of disruptions.Provide assistance to other departments as needed.Performs other duties as required. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS The Library division runs smoothly and efficiently. Work area is neat and orderly.Excellent customer service and guidance is provided to patrons of the Library.Efficient and effective processing, cataloging, and lending of library materials exists.The circulation desk/resource desk is adequately staffed and materials are handled according to established procedure.Items are checked out according to procedure.Effective working relations exist with City personnel. Management is appropriately informed. Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.The City’s professional reputation is maintained. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma, equivalent, or currently enrolled.CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: None needed for this position. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.Specialized: Dewey Decimal Classification System, Oklahoma Law regarding confidentiality of library records. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to arrange in alphabetical and numerical order.Ability to learn internal and external computer systems.Ability to make change and handle money.Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Accurate and attentive to detail. Excellent communications and public relations abilities. Ability to assist and support others. Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION FINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.VISUAL ABILITIES: Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force frequently. Light physical activity performing slightly strenuous daily activities of a product/technical nature. LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form. MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement. WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS: Part-time: Variable, 20 hours per week. Monday–Friday 9:00 AM –9:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM–6:00 PM.Other–Variable meal break period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel. WORK CONDITIONS: Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.NOISE LEVEL: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).Other work conditions: Repetitive motion activities. Falling objects, such as books. ADVANCEMENT CRITERIAINTERMEDIATE 1-2 years experience.Some college.Level 1 Certification from OK Dept. of Libraries.Ability to work in two areas of library specialty.Proficient internal computer applications.Ability to fill in for Library Associate for short periods.Valid CPR certification. ADVANCED6 years experience.Degree in related field.Develop and implement improved methods and procedures.Ability to work in more than two areas of library specialty.Advanced internal and external computer applications.Ability to fill in for Librarian for extended periods.Conversational SpanishParticipation in related local committee.
