This position is responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of vehicles to learn and become proficient in the technical aspects of servicing City vehicles and equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Assist in repairs and the required preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Assist with inspection and troubleshooting equipment.
- Learn to interpret work orders and technical manuals.
- Assist in the maintenance of shop tools and equipment.
- Drive service truck to pick up parts and supplies.
- Maintain service truck; changes oil, logs in miles, etc.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Senior Mechanic assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

- Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance principles and practices.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance principles and practices.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools, air compressors, and hydraulic jacks.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
