This is not a PERS eligible position.
The City of Escondido is looking for dynamic individuals who are interested in working in a fast-paced busy community center. This front counter position will engage the public regarding our recreation programs, provide excellent customer service, and support the operation of the East Valley Community Center (EVCC). The available scheduled shifts will vary, weekdays (7:45 a.m. - 9:15 p.m.) and weekends (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.).
Key responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, this position will assist customers in front counter operations including but not limited to activity registration, answering phones/emails, handling payments, prepare room/gym set-ups, and general office duties.
- Provides assistance to City staff, outside agencies and general public regarding all community programs offered by the City of Escondido.
- Monitors all activities occurring in the facility to assure safety and security of public and staff.
- Providing excellent customer service via phone, email, and in-person.
- Handle all emergencies, incidents, and/or injuries.
- Promote programs and events to customers.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Be energetic, self-motivated, and team orientated in a fast-paced, often busy environment
- Provide strong customer service skills and abilities to work with community members of all ages, volunteers, outside agency representatives, and City staff
- Have excellent oral and written skills to communicate with the community members and City staff
- Be organized and able to multi-task
- Work independently and request assistance when necessary
- Have knowledge of Microsoft Professional Suite
- Have experience working in a public service environment or customer service
- Have the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- 18 years of age at the time of employment
- High school graduate or equivalent
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear for testing. All positions require the ability to read, write and speak English. Types of tests may include written and/or oral examination, physical agility, practical exam or other appropriate job-related selection process. When testing is completed, candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list in the order of their test score. Selection for appointments is made from names certified on the eligibility list.
All appointments are subject to the successful completion of background investigation including LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and will be required to submit verification of the legal right to work in the United States. Qualification by a medical examination will be required at the time of appointment. After appointment, classified employees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period to be eligible for regular status.
