JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Animal Services Officer I operates the animal shelter, performs routine inspections and investigations in the animal control field, and patrols and responds to calls for service in response to stray, sick or dangerous animals and violations of animal regulatory ordinances.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position may be required to work overtime and may be required to daily adjust shift schedule on occasion. -
Must be able to work on a stand-by/call back rotation and will require evening and weekend work as needed. -
Ability to read, write and perform simple math. -
Ability to acquire knowledge of city animal codes and ordinances, and specific techniques. -
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must possess a Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record. Must complete the Basic Animal Control Officer Training Course, and obtain required licenses within one (1) year of employment. A euthanasia certificate of completion must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. This position requires the employee to work on a stand-by/call back rotation and will require evening and weekend work as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Lifting up to 55 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, grippping 25 pounds, on occasion may lift up to 75 pounds, walking, using poles/ropes to restrain animals, sitting, standing, near/far vision, ability to access confined spaces, works indoors and outdoors including exposures to excess to heat, cold, and precipitation.
Pre-employment screening includes but is not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, Credit Check, Motor Vehicle Review and applicable Background Checks.
