WATER PLANT OPERATOR I
Under supervision and direction from the Treatment Foreman and/or Chief Plant Operator, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and provides manual labor for the operation and maintenance of water and/or sanitary sewer treatment plants, associated appurtenances, facilities and grounds.
Employee will be required and expected to work varied schedules and shifts which will include weekends and Holidays; Will set-up, operate and monitor equipment operations at treatment facilities, to include pumps, filters, wells, water softening equipment, and chemical storage; Will perform basic and routine influent and effluent quality analysis; Monitors and regulates the appropriate quantities in water storage facilities; Takes readings from meters and recording devices and compiles hourly, daily, and monthly records; Monitors telemetry system; Maintains buildings and grounds by performing minor carpentry, painting, and general housekeeping and custodial work; May be subject to being “on-call” and responding to emergency alarms, calls, and problems; This is only an “example” of work duties, employee will be expected and required to perform other job-related duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Some knowledge of the methods, equipment, materials, practices, and terminology used in the operation and care of treatment plant equipment; Must understand the principles of meters and gauges, and timing and recording devices; Employee should have the ability to conduct, or the aptitude to learn how to perform water quality tests accurately and according to procedure and standards; Must be capable of using a wide variety of hand tools; Physical ability to perform moderately manual labor; Capability of learning operation and light maintenance of equipment and vehicles used in performance of job duties; Must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving history, and access to personal transportation; Must be able to clearly communicate in written and verbal format with co-workers, supervisor, and the public.
A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Possess a Class “D” Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certification, as issued by the State of Missouri, and the aptitude and ability to obtain a Class “C” Certification within eighteen (18) months from time of employment. Certification in both Water and Wastewater Operations, and laboratory skills and knowledge is desired and preferred. Must currently possess a valid driver’s license, with a safe driving record, and have access to personal vehicle for transportation to and from place of assigned work.

Pay: $3,614.26 - $4,047.97 per month
