What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patrol Officer position at City Of Fair Oaks Ranch?
Protects the city’s residents/property and enforces laws and ordinances. Duties include, but are not limited to, patrolling an assigned area, generally by vehicle, to prevent crime and enforce laws and ordinances. Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and takes appropriate action.
Knowledge of:
- Patrols an assigned area, by vehicle or on foot, to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances. Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and disturbances, including domestic disputes and alarms, and takes necessary action, including performing first aid.
- Directs traffic, escorts traffic, operates traffic radar monitoring equipment, and issues traffic citations.
- Investigates traffic accidents and crimes against persons and property. Questions witnesses, complainants, and suspects, and takes statements and depositions.
- Serves warrants and makes arrests.
- Keeps records of activities and makes reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents, and investigations.
- Appears in court as required.
- Shares information and works with other law enforcement agencies as directed and appropriate.
- Conduct security checks of business and residential areas on patrol route.
- Performs upkeep and simple maintenance of department vehicles. Assists emergency medical personnel, firefighters, and code enforcement.
- Fosters good police-community relations among residents in the community.
- Assists with special activities such as bank deposits.
- Assists in criminal investigations. Tags and logs evidence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Traffic law, Texas Penal Code, city ordinances and TABC laws.
- Radar operation and applicable procedures of use.
- Use and care of vehicles.
- Firearms and specialized equipment.
- Understand and follow instructions, departmental policy, rules, regulations, and laws.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Gather, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence while drawing logical conclusions from information and make proper recommendations for action.
- Interpret, analyze, and apply laws, ordinances, departmental polices, and regulations quickly, accurately, and effectively during the course of work.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
- Meet and maintain established standards of physical endurance, agility, and vision requirements as set by the department.
- Meet and maintain established firearms qualification standards as set by the department.
- Operate a vehicle under emergency conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations with other law enforcement agencies, judicial officials, and the general public.
- Analyze situations, adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action.
- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent is required.
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officers License required.
- Ability to pass and maintain physical agility standards as set by the department.
- Ability to qualify and maintain firearms qualifications.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
