The City of Fairburn is seeking to fill the seasonal position of Aquatics Supervisor for the duration of the summer camp to provide a safe, aquatic environment at various aquatic facility areas, and to adhere to all safety rules and procedures. The Aquatics Supervisor performs administrative duties to assure a safe and efficient aquatic program and facility. This includes direct supervision of Aquatic personnel and programs as well as taking an active role as an instructor, lifeguard, cashier, and aquatic maintenance. This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Director.
Hiring Range: $17.49 per hour

JOB SUMMARY
The Aquatics Supervisor performs administrative duties to assure a safe and efficient aquatic program and facility. This includes direct supervision of Aquatic personnel and programs as well as taking an active role as an instructor, lifeguard, cashier, and aquatic maintenance. This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide supervision of the pool and aquatic programs.
- Schedule the staff for lifeguard duties.
- Prepare pools for opening and closing, as needed.
- Monitor the facility operating schedule and make recommendations for changes in operating hours and/or staff hours as needed to the Parks and Recreation Director for approval.
- Train new lifeguards and instructors and provide in-service training to current staff members.
- Perform duties of lifeguard
- Handle and resolve the public’s concerns or complaints at the pool.
- Report all incidents to the Parks and Recreation Director concerning major problems, accidents, or incidents.
- Responsible for collecting and securing all monies for pool and aquatic programs.
- Reserve and register patrons for events and pool activities using ACTIVE Net.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Three years of experience in aquatics including lifeguarding
Two years of experience in an aquatic’s leadership role (e.g., Head Guard, Head Instructor, etc.)
Two years (or seasons) experience as a supervisor of lifeguards.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Lifeguard Certification required. American Red Cross preferred.
- AED (Automated External Defibrillator) required.
- CPR certification required.
- First Aid certification required.
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check. This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of aquatic facility supervision and administration.
- Knowledge of pool operations and pool chemistry
- Knowledge of cash handling and cash control.
- Skilled as a lifeguard.
- Ability to set the example in personal appearance and uniform and enforces the same of the pool staff.
- Ability to supervise pool and aquatic programs.
- Ability to operate aquatic program and facility safely and efficiently.
- Ability to use ACTIVE Net registration software, and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to provide instruction and guidance to facility personnel regarding aquatic programs.
- Ability to manage and schedule staff regarding their duties.
- Ability to prepare pools for opening and closing.
- Ability to train new lifeguards and instructors and to provide in-service training to staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The incumbent is regularly required to perform duties that require manual dexterity involved with swimming and instruction of the same, in addition to physical demands of lifeguard duties. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed outdoors at the pool facility or in an office for associated administrative functions. The purpose of this position is to perform duties to assure a safe and efficient aquatic program and facility. This position has supervision over seasonal Aquatic personnel and programs.
