What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse Coordinator position at City of Fairfield, CT?
In the absence of the Nursing Supervisor, assumes supervisory responsibility for all public health nursing programs.
- Provides direct services in public health nursing programs, including school health, Adult Heath Programs, Well Child Clinic, employee health clinics, communicable disease control, and other programs.
- Provide direction and assistance to schools without a nurse on the premises with health related problems and emergencies.
- May serve on interdisciplinary teams to assist in planning educational programs for students in the school system with special needs.
- Coordinates Well Child Clinic activities, including but not limited to intake, scheduling, and follow-up of referrals.
- Assists staff with clinical problem-solving using the nursing process and obtains needed resources.
- Makes regular field visits to staff in their schools, clinics, and other settings to provide on-site assistance in program implementation.
- Assists in provision of on-going in service education for staff. Maintains an on-going record of continuing education workshops attended by staff.
- Conducts orientation of new staff to program policies and procedures, delegating specific areas of this process to senior staff when appropriate.
Maintains an organized, current library of educational resources for staff use, i.e., journals, articles, books, and other audiovisual aids. Encourages staff utilization of these resources.
Obtains substitute nursing coverage for staff illness and other time off. When necessary, directly provides substitute coverage.
- May assist in planning for and providing educational experience for university students in the health professions.
- Provides information for members of the public who call to inquire regarding services available through the public health nursing programs. Provides referral information when appropriate.
- Confers on a regular basis with the Nursing Supervisor.
- Updates professional knowledge and skills through reading, seminars, conferences, and peer meetings.
Qualifications
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.
- BSN Degree.
- Current C.P.R. certification at BLS level with AED training. Instructor's certificate desirable.
- Meets regulatory requirements for a qualified school nurse in Connecticut.
- Previous school nursing experience required. Experience in additional areas of community health is desirable.

HOURLY RATE: $50.00/hour
