What are the responsibilities and job description for the WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR position at City of Fairfield, CT?
Fairfield Parks and Recreation seeks a positive, energetic professional to provide excellent swim lessons to the citizens of Fairfield, CT. Instructors will ensure a safe, fun and educational environment for participants of the program. Water Safety Instructor lead group, private and semi-private swim lessons (infant through adult) at Jennings Beach and Lake Mohegan. Under supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and Assistant Waterfront Coordinators, the swim instructors expected to be a certified WSI and prepare for lessons to run from July 10 through August 18 2023. Lessons typically run Monday through Thursday from 10:00am through 6:00pm based on registration and instructor availability throughout the summer. Ideal candidate will have committed schedule by early March 2023 in preparation for summer registration.
Instruct participants for both swimming and safety skills in water.
Provide a fun and educational swim lesson experience for both participants and parents
Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations.
Educate class participants on the rules of the facility.
Provide exemplary customer service ensuring the best swim lesson experience for the participants and parents.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with students, parents and facility staff.
Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
Complete all appropriate lesson paperwork during shift.
Qualifications
Minimum 16 years old.
Completion of Water Safety Instructor Course (or certification similar to WSI).
Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work with all ages.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Professional work-related practices of alertness, dependability and courteousness.
Pass lifeguard pre-employment practical in-water skills test.
