Please note that this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy for a Full-time position. This position may require a thorough background investigation, polygraph, and a pre-employment medical exam to be completed on each final candidate, prior to appointment.WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is generally performed in an office, warehouse and evidence room setting and may include exposure to hazards including firearms, controlled substances and biologically contaminated substances and other potential toxic exposures, such as body fluids, odors and decomposition matter. Position may require shift work, including weekends and holidays. Frequent travel to off-site locations for transportation of evidence, trainings or meetings is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position requires sitting for long periods of time, frequent use of keyboard and visual acuity; frequent reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending and lifting is also required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, or pull property weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Police Property Specialist I is the entry-level class in this series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn to perform the duties related to property and evidence. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher level classification.
Police Property Specialist II is the journey level class of this series, fully competent to independently perform a variety of property and evidence duties with little supervision.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Direct supervision received by the Police Support Supervisor - Property and Evidence. May provide guidance and direction to temporary workers, and/or volunteers, as necessary.
- High School Diploma or the equivalent is required. A degree or coursework in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
- One (1) year experience in customer service including customer contact is required. Any work or volunteer experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property is desirable.
Police Property Specialist II:
- Two (2) years' experience in the handling and storage of evidence and property with a city, county or state law enforcement agency is required
