Under the supervision of the Gas Superintendent, this employee installs gas main and service lines for residential and commercial customers, lays out gas service plans for new developments, performs skilled welding and fusion operations associated with gas line installation, and landscapes gas line installation sites following project work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Crew Leadership. Employee provides leadership for Gas Department work crews in the performance of a range of tasks and duties. Serves as work crew leader for Gas Department employees involved in the performance of specific assignments or tasks.Makes job assignments for work crew members and monitors job performance. Reports job and task accomplishments to Gas Superintendent; notes any job performance problems to the Superintendent. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Performs Welding and Other Procedures Used to Install Gas Lines. Installs gas service lines throughout the service area for residential and commercial customers. Installs gas lines (main and service lines) within the Gas Department service area.Plots or lays out gas line service plans for new developments.Landscapes gas line installation site and areas following project completion.Performs skilled welding and fusion tasks associated with gas line installation and construction.Observes all established safety regulations and precautions when installing gas lines and welding. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Equipment Operation. Operates equipment utilized in installing gas service lines. Operates equipment such as trucks, trenchers and backhoes used to install gas service lines.Monitors all equipment for needed repairs or maintenance.
