This employee performs manual and electronic meter readings for all City utilities (gas, water, sewer and electric). The employee completes field work orders to move customers on or off service and updates computer accounts for customers. This employee programs and operates an electronic radio transmitter (ERT) associated with utility meter reading and installation. The employee changes out non-functioning utility meters and new meters as required. This employee collects money owed for over-due accounts and cuts service for customers that do not pay their over-due accounts. The employee answers utility customer questions concerning their meters and their utility bills. This employee may train Apprentice Meter Reader in the duties of a Meter Reader. The job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens.
